Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun recently had the honor and pleasure of hosting a truly international celebrity—the beautiful Miss Universe 2013 Gabriela Isler! Born in Venezuela, this was Gabriela’s first time ever in Mexico and we were thrilled at the opportunity to give her a fantastic first impression of the country. While Gabriela spent much of her stay completing a photo shoot for clothing and swimwear line Yamamay, she was able to take some time to explore Secrets Maroma and nearby Playa del Carmen, as well as enjoy a few specially-prepared meals at the resort.

The moment Gabriela arrived at Secrets Maroma, she greeted everyone with a huge smile and was off to her Master Suite overlooking the ocean to enjoy a nutritious spread of salads, yogurt, fresh fruit and homemade granola bars. She especially loved the specially-prepared dressings. After resting in her room and getting settled, Gabriela dined at El Patio, our Mexican fine dining restaurant. Since this was her first time in Mexico, Chef Jesus Rendon prepared a delicious tasting menu of authentic Mexican specialties including Scallops and Shrimp Aguachile, Asaparagus Cream Soup and Provenzal Style Rack of Lamb. Gabriela loved the presentation of each dish and commented on several occasions how at home the attentive staff made her feel.

Gabriela’s next day started early with a 6 am photo shoot, right on the Secrets Maroma beach! She was amazed by the coral reef line, white sand and beautiful turquoise color of the water, describing the scene as “marvelous.” Secrets guests were amazed once they realized they were sharing a beach and resort with Miss Universe!

On her last full day, Secrets Maroma hosted a press session where we received some of the most important local media outlets. In her interviews, Gabriela commented on the wonderful hospitality of Mexico, especially Secrets Maroma Beach, and said she can’t wait for the opportunity to return someday. For her last dinner, Gabriela chose the French cuisine of Bordeaux and all too soon, it was time for her to go home.
