Mr. & Mrs. R, recent guests from the UK, stayed at Secrets Akumal for 14 nights. Karen, their personal concierge, quickly learned that they are lovers of Mexican cuisine. They even asked if it was possible to have the recipes for the dishes they had eaten at the hotel, since they would love to be able to make them at home! From there, Karen coordinated with the food and beverage team to plan a surprise cooking class with Executive Chef Jose Mena, Sous Chef Mariel and Chef Francisco.

We treated our guests to a surprise Mexican cooking class at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya — a true WOW moment!

Karen, wearing a charro hat, met Mr. & Mrs. R in their room at the scheduled time and walked them to the restaurant, where our team of chefs was waiting for them. The couple were presented with customized aprons and hats, and then got to prepare some of the dishes they had loved during their stay: Salsa Mexicana, guacamole, salbutes, quesadillas, and more.

But that wasn’t all! At the end of the class, the Executive Chef Jose Mena presented the guests with a homemade recipe book, which he and Sous Chef Mariel had signed. They were thrilled to find that they could take home a little piece of Mexico!

The couple took a few minutes to thank everyone for the wonderful surprise, and the night ended with the delicious dinner that resulted from the class.
