A few weeks ago, our Secrets Papagayo entertainment manager, Christian, was in the activities center checking his emails. One of the resort’s guests, Rafael approached him very kindly to ask him about the spa. Rafael told Christian that he and his wife, Dinia, had recently gotten married, and that he was looking for something to give her as a surprise. At the same time, the guest let Christian know how grateful he was to the hotel staff, because this wasn’t the first time the couple had stayed at Secrets Papagayo.

Rafael had actually proposed to Dinia at the resort during their first visit! He had been planning the proposal for a couple of months, and received a lot of help from the staff to execute this special moment. The couple had a wonderful time, and Rafael said that the hotel staff was “so great,” they decided to come back for their honeymoon. Christian used this opportunity to gather some more information from the guest, such as his wife’s favorite song, taste and hobbies. Then, he asked Rafael to help him with a plan to surprise his wife; he asked him to take Dinia to get some ice cream to give our staff time to to arrange something special for them.

Our guests at Secrets Papagayo Costa Rica were surprised to find beautiful decorations in their suite to celebrate their recent marriage!

Upon returning to their suite, Dinia found a path of rose petals and red balloons, in addition to candles and a bottle of sparkling wine! Then, as Dinia approached the balcony to watch the sunset, she caught sight of a guitarist, who began to play an acoustic version of her favorite song, “Bailando.” As she stepped fully out onto the balcony, she was able to see the resort’s art teacher, who was painting the sunset and adding some extra sunflowers, Dinia’s favorite flowers, to the picture. While hugging his wife, who had tears in her eyes, Rafael said, ”We are so very grateful to the hotel staff at Secrets Papagayo. We will return for our anniversary!”
