When Mr. and Mrs. R arrived at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya ready to be pampered, they were asked if they were celebrating anything special during their stay. They were moved by the staff’s interest and told them that Mrs. R had just come out victorious in her battle against cancer. While sharing their personal story with the Secrets Akumal team, Mr. and Mrs. R were both very emotional, so resort staff decided to take their celebration of life to the top and make their getaway as memorable as possible.

The team decorated their room with special photos of the couple and asked Mr. R what their favorite song is. He told them that it was “Hoy me he vuelto a enamorar” by Alejandro Fernández and Gloria Estefan — a song that both dedicated to each other almost every day since Mrs. R began her battle against cancer. With the help of the resort’s DJ, Jesus, the team worked together to create a video in tribute to the couple’s love, including phrases they said while speaking with their concierge Daniel.

On the last day of their stay, Mr. and Mrs. R went to the front desk to say goodbye to Daniel, who then asked them to accompany him to the resort’s auditorium. When they arrived, they found the entire Secrets Akumal team who had worked so hard to make their stay memorable waiting for them. A projection appeared, and the video that Jesus and his team created began to play. At the end, everyone strongly applauded, and Mr. and Mrs. R infinitely thanked them with tears in their eyes. They graciously exclaimed that it was the best vacation they ever had, saying that each and every one of the resort staff members had touched their hearts.
