The Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun is Mexico’s only PGA Tour event and is regarded as one of the finest events on the Tour. This year’s tournament is taking place on February 23-27, 2011 at El Camaleón Golf Club.
El Camaleón Golf Club is a Greg Norman designed course that is considered unique – not just to México but to the entire golfing kingdom. The course bends through three distinct landscapes – tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and oceanfront stretches of sand with holes bisected by massive limestone canals. There is even a cenote, and a massive, ancient cavern common to the area, in the heart of the opening fairway.
With the wonders of the Riviera Maya and Cancún regions, and the warmth and hospitality of the Mexican people, the 2011 Mayakoba Golf Classic is poised for its best year ever. There will be 132 PGA Tour professionals descending upon Playa del Carmen for this competitive and exciting event, with a $3.7 million purse up for grabs.
