It’s that time of year again—the time for picnics, outdoor barbecues, fireworks and American flags. It’s Independence Day! If you’re not celebrating with us at Secrets Resorts & Spas, never fear! We have some fun ideas that you can take straight to the table at your Fourth of July gathering. Check out the recipe below for a delicious and festive sangria.
- Strawberries, sliced
- Pineapple, cut into star shapes
- 2 bottles dry white wine
- 1 cup Triple Sec
- 1/2 Cup berry-flavored vodka
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 cup simple syrup
Combine the ingredients in a large pitcher and stir. Chill in the refrigerator for at least four hours.

The unofficial start of summer is just a few days away and that means families everywhere will be flocking to the beaches to enjoy the warm weather. Here at Secrets Resorts & Spas, we’ll welcome a number of new guests as they celebrate the holiday with us. Not only will they dine at our delicious restaurants and enjoy our fun-filled activities, but they’ll also sip on some of the most tropical cocktails–including the Mango Daiquiri.
If you’re not visiting us this Memorial Day, but want to feel like you’re at our resorts, here’s the recipe to make a Mango Daiquiri at home. Just don’t forget to add an umbrella to this drink for the ultimate beach experience!
- 3 ounces rum
- 1 1/2 cups mangoes, cubed
- 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce triple sec
- 4 teaspoons sugar
- 2 cups ice cubes
Blend in a blender until smooth and enjoy!
Spring has almost sprung, but for many of us, the cold temperatures at home have us longing for a warm, sunny vacay to Secrets Resorts & Spas! If you’re itching to get away, try making this delicious Coconut Shrimp that is sure to make you feel like you’re at our resorts. Pair it with a Margarita or Piña Colata for a true tropical experience!
Coconut Shrimp Recipe
6-8 cups of vegetable oil
12 to 16 large shrimp
1 ½ cup of flour
2 tablespoons of sugar
Salt to taste
1 cup of milk
2 tablespoons of Captain Morgan’s Rum
1 cup panko bread crumbs
½ cup shredded coconut
- Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350 ºF
- Mix together ¾ cup of flour, sugar and salt
- After thoroughly mixed, stir in milk and Captain Morgan’s rum and let the batter stand for 5 minutes
- While the batter is resting, combine coconut and bread crumbs in a separate bowl
- You can then begin coating the shrimp
- First coat the shrimp in flour, then the wet batter and finally the bread crumb and coconut mixture.
- After the shrimp is coated, fry the shrimp in the heated oil
Calling Jamaica home makes us smile at Secrets Wild Orchid & Secrets St. James. Since we love our hometown so much, we can’t help but get enough this cocktail that’s appropriately named the “Jamaican Smile.” And since some of you enjoyed this drink so much while at our resort, we wanted to provide you with the recipe so you can take your Jamaican experience home with you!
½ cup of Pina Colada
½ cup of Strawberry Mix
1 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
½ oz Coconut Rum
½ oz Amaretto
½ ripe Banana
Add all ingredients into a blender with ice, and blend until smooth. Pour into cyclone glass; garnish with pineapple and cherry. Enjoy!
There’s nothing better than soaking up the sun with a delicious cocktail in hand! In the below recipe two of our favorites collide—the piña colada and margarita. That’s right—a Coconut Margarita. Whether you’re sitting on the beach at Secrets Resorts in Mexico or by the pool in your hometown, this drink is sure to be a hit!
1 1/2 oz white/blanco tequila
1/2 oz orange flavored liqueur
1 teaspoon cream of coconut
2 oz pineapple juice
2 oz sweet and sour mix
1 teaspoon shaved coconut for rim
1 cup ice
Directions: Place ice in a blender and blend for 10 seconds. Add in remaining ingredients and blend for another 10 seconds. Dip wet rim of a margarita glass in coconut shavings and pour into glass.
